Thanksgiving Memories
I remember back, when I was young;
What Thanksgiving was like at home.
All the family would gather together;
Nobody was ever left out and alone.
Mama always made a huge turkey for us;
With stuffing and all the trimmings.
Everyone would gather around the table;
To feast together, on Thanksgiving.
The family would come from all around;
Travel many miles, just to be together.
And living in the north, like we did,
Sometimes it meant snowy weather.
The house filled with the smell of turkey;
Roasting, ever so slowly, in the oven.
The smell of fresh baked pumpkin pies;
Was like the kitchen was in heaven.
Homemade dressing donned the table;
Along with gravy and mashed potatoes.
And after the hearty meal was over;
Mama received her much-deserved bravos.
Thanksgiving seemed to mean more back then;
With all of our big family gathered around.
As now, the family has gotten a lot smaller;
Mama, Daddy, and some of the others, are gone.
