Good Bye My Child
It seems like only yesterday;
I held your hands to help you walk.
And just a few short days ago;
You said a word, and learned to talk.
All of a sudden that big day came;
You were off to your first day at school.
Where soon you learned to read and write;
And they taught you the golden rule.
Those school years seemed to fly by fast;
Birthday party's came and went.
Then there was the dating years;
When I cautiously gave my consent.
Before I knew it, I heard those words;
"Can I please borrow the car?"
I had to show that I trusted you;
But, I didn't let you go too far.
Then came high school graduation;
My heart was bursting with pride.
You walked up to receive your diploma;
And underneath my smile, I cried.
Now the time has finally arrived;
It's time to venture out on your own.
Oh how it hurts deep down inside;
As I see my little child leave home.
I know I have to say good-bye;
As you walk away from me.
Know that you can always come back;
And I love you unconditionally!
