I Remember, Mama
Mama, this is just for you;
As I think upon the past.
Things you taught me come to mind;
Things that'll forever last.
We weren't really very close;
But I do have memories.
And a lot of them are good ones;
And I do remember these.
You taught me how to make fresh bread;
And homemade pies and such.
And how to sew a quilt of my own;
With such a gentle touch.
But the things that I am grateful for;
Are things the eyes can't see.
It's a love for God and all mankind;
That you instilled in me.
You taught me to be honest;
And always to be fair.
And if a friend cried out for help;
You taught me to be there.
I think the thing I admire the most;
Is the strength I saw in you.
I learned by watching how you did it;
And then I caught it, too.
I learned to be a caring Mother;
And a very loving wife.
All the things you taught me Mom;
Were given when you gave me life!
I'm proud of what I am today;
And who I have become.
All the good that's built in me;
I owe to you, my Mom!
