Having Sons, Not Daughters
I always wanted a baby girl;
But it wasn't in the stars for me;
For I was given two sons instead;
No little girls would I see.
No pretty little dresses to buy;
Or patent leather shoes.
Instead of pretty pinks for me;
I was left to buy shades of blues.
No dollies under the Christmas tree;
Or little tea pots and cups.
Instead it was lots of tinker toys;
And cars and trains with wind-ups.
I had to learn how to throw ball;
And the proper way, to swing a bat.
And even how to toss a horseshoe;
And there was hand-to-hand combat.
But, now that I look back on it all;
I really thank my lucky stars.
For I wouldn't trade either one of them;
And all the memories, that are ours.
I love them both, with all my heart;
And they mean the world to me.
I'm so very proud to be their Mom;
I just want everyone to see.
