Christmas Past
I have such very fond memories;
Of Christmas when I was young.
All the things that made it special;
And made it so much fun.
I remember baking cookies with Mom;
And adding decorations on the top.
And making fudge and taffy, too;
I wished the fun would never stop.
I remember the smell of the Christmas tree;
A real one, that smelled of pine.
And stringing lights all around it;
And adding tinsel, one at a time.
And beautiful glass ornaments were added;
Family heirlooms from Christmas past;
Each one was hung so carefully;
From year to year, they had to last.
I would gather with my friends at night;
And we went from door to door.
Singing all our favorite Christmas carols;
Something no one does anymore.
Christmas morning, we hurried downstairs;
To find the presents, that Santa left there.
Everything lay beneath the tree;
With tender love, and gentle care.
Those Christmas' are now long gone;
I'm married, with my own family.
And now I have children of my own;
To make a new Christmas memory.
